cyclists camino de santiagoHello and welcome to the site about a 790km (min.!!) cross country bike trip across the north of Spain from Roncesvalles to Santiago de Compostela 7th-18th October 2008. It's approximately 500 miles of trails from Roncesvalles to Santiago de Compostela over 10-11 days... Si Brown (musician) & Dave Scanlan (counsellor) have been training like lads possessed, cut out the junk and are now... well, starting to realise they're not as young as they were!

We are hoping to raise funds for a local charity The Marina Dalgish Appeal which in conjunction with Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology is hoping to help build a much needed Radiotherapy Centre in Liverpool. We all know someone who has had cancer and we can make this new radiotherapy centre a reality so let's make it happen! Please donate what you can via our sponsorship forms, collection buckets or the link below. Unlike the bike ride, it won't take more than a few minutes to do and it won't chaff yer bits! Thank you!

Work and family commitments have finally ruled out several other riders. Some of us apparently don't have proper jobs and/or have been disowned... The uncoveted Billy-No-Mates jersey will be worn by Si from Roncesvalles on Tuesday 7th until Friday 10th when Dave arrives at Burgos where it might at least get a wash.

directions camino de santiagoAs the Northern Route via Oviedo is apparently not as well signposted, we agreed that the inland French Route would be the better option for a first trip at least. Having no sense of direction, we are fully confident that this is the right way to go...

We are hoping to get properly fit for once - Dave is training on his Specialized Tricross up in Glasgow where he lives and Si is on his Orange P7 Pro around the Wirral (Liverpool). We are looking forward to a physical challenge but a fun trip, interesting places and people along the way and a sense of achievement at the end. We will also be providing a little musical entertainment at each resting point for general morale and rehearsal for the possible follow-up album and tour, book, DVD, etc...

After reaching Santiago, we will drive to Oviedo where Si studied and lived for 9 years and where we have been promised a heroe's reception... we might just settle for a big, soft cushion...

On a serious note, although this is a personal journey we would like to raise as much money as we can for The Marina Dalgish Appeal but for that we need your help. So please give as much as you can.

We are covering all of our own costs. The full amount of all donations will go to The Marina Dalgish Appeal. Please donate via the link: MARINA DALGLISH APPEAL http://www.justgiving.com/WayToSantiago

Thanks for your support! We will not let you down!

All the best

Si & Dave (Wed 1st October 2008)
